Speech Sounds

Speech Sounds

Natural sound patterns known as phonological processes are a typical part of a child's speech development and usually diminish as they grow. Speech errors are unique variations that may arise from factors such as articulation differences, language disorders, or tongue placement. We assess and assist children in developing the correct placement and movement of the tongue, lips, and jaw to produce accurate speech sounds, enhancing their ability to communicate clearly.

Language

Language

Children express their thoughts, ideas, and feelings through expressive language using spoken or written words, while receptive language involves their ability to understand and interpret these words, encompassing vocabulary and grammar. We evaluate and support each child's comprehension and expressive skills, providing tailored interventions to help them communicate effectively and confidently.

Social Communication

Social Communication

Involving verbal and nonverbal language in interactions, social communication is a vital area in speech pathology. This includes supporting children in their social interactions, pragmatics, and conversation skills. We adopt a neurodiversity-affirming approach, valuing the unique communication styles and preferences of all individuals equally. Our interventions are designed to support each child's ability to connect meaningfully with others.

Literacy

Literacy

Literacy opens a world of knowledge and imagination for children, involving reading, writing, and understanding written language. It includes developing basic skills and the capacity to interpret and use written language effectively for communication, learning, and daily activities. We focus on key literacy skills using the Sounds-Write approach, ensuring each child develops a strong foundation for lifelong learning and communication.

Fluency

Fluency & Stuttering

Characterised by disruptions in the smooth flow of speech, such as repetition, prolongation, and blocks, stuttering is a common challenge that many children face, especially those between the ages of 3–4 years. Although the exact cause is unknown, we use the research-backed Lidcombe Program to diagnose and treat fluency disorders, helping each child to speak more easily and confidently.

Feeding

Swallowing & Feeding

We specialise in supporting infants and young children who experience challenges with swallowing and feeding. Our comprehensive care caters to those with difficulties such as sucking, eating from a spoon, chewing, or drinking from a cup, including those experiencing food aversions. Our team provides assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management, ensuring each child's feeding experiences are safe and enjoyable.

AAC

Augmentative & Alternative Communication (AAC)

We empower children to express themselves fully and freely using AAC. This includes both low-tech solutions like picture boards and communication books, and high-tech tools such as speech-generating devices. Our goal is to equip each child with the means to say what they want, how they want, when they want, and to whom they want.
